Elect the Lords

Elect the Lords LogoElect the Lords was set up in 2004 by Unlock Democracy’s predecessor organisations to campaign for a predominantly elected second chamber to replace the existing House of Lords at the earliest opportunity.

In 2007, the House of Commons voted to further explore the options of an 80% elected and wholly elected second chamber, ruling out all other options.

Join our Virtual House of Lords

Unlock Democracy are committed to keeping the pressure on the government to reform the House of Lords. The best way you can help do this is by buying one of our virtual peerages.

A virtual peerage won’t get you a seat in the House of Lords, but your donation will help us in our campaign for an elected second chamber. You will be sent a “certificate of inauthenticity” for you to proudly display (it is a great novelty gift) and - with your permission - your name will be added to our Virtual House of Lords.

This map shows all the current members of the Virtual House of Lords:
