The European Union Reform Treaty will be the focus of heated political debate throughout the United Kingdom. This booklet is a basic introduction to the Treaty. It will be a useful introduction and summary for anyone who wants to know more about this issue.
In the booklet:
- John Palmer provides a brief guide to the key changes in the Treaty.
- Peter Facey then gives Unlock Democracy’s views on whether the Treaty will help improve democracy in the European Union. He evaluates the Treaty’s effects in improving representation, participation, rights, accountability, and transparency.

Bit late in the day – sorry – but here are a few sites in French, with a more limited English section. The most complete perhaps, with a remarkable number of links, is:

A couple more:

Their underlying theme could be summed up as the confiscation of democracy by non-elected bodies like the WTO and the EU commission. The Treaty of Lisbon is exposed as an unreadable rehash of the treaty rejected in 2005. Who says so? Why, Giscard himself (The Independent, 30.10.2007, in an article previously published in Le Monde).
