Note on Internships
Unlock Democracy usually offers two volunteer internships every six weeks, one in research/policy and one in campaigns. Our interns get to experience different aspects of working for a democracy campaigning organisation, and we try to ensure that they have a rewarding and enriching experience which will help their employment prospects.
We recognise that lengthy, inflexible and unpaid volunteer roles can perpetuate social exclusion, as people who cannot afford to commit time without wages are unable to take up the opportunities, particularly if they live outside London. We are currently working to find funding for one paid
internship, and to make them both more flexible to increase the range of people able to apply.
However, we are loath to remove these opportunities altogether as we do believe they offer valuable career experiences. We cannot afford to pay our volunteer interns without securing external funding, and we never ask our volunteer interns to do work that should properly be done by a paid member
of staff.
Membership Volunteers
Membership Volunteer
Unlock Democracy is looking for an enthusiastic individual who would be willing to donate some of their time to help the cause of democratic reform, while gaining membership/fundraising experience.
The position is based in the London office and includes light clerical duties, administration, data processing and membership fulfilment.
Full training will be given and previous experience of an office environment is desirable, but not essential. The work offered will be varied, however willingness and ability to work for concentrated periods processing data in various formats would be highly desirable.
Ideally we would like volunteers to be able to commit to at least 3 days per week for during the summer. This is an voluntary unpaid position although we are able to cover travel expenses up to zone 6.
Please submit a CV and covering letter explaining why you would like this role to Samir Afhim at samir[dot]afhim[at]unlockdemocracy[dot]org[dot]uk
Closing date for applications: Monday 31 May.
