Liberal Democrat Party President Tim Farron has made controversial comments, comparing the unelected House of Lords to the political system of Syria on Sky News, as his party steps up pressure to introduce a bill on the House of Lords in the next parliamentary session. Meanwhile, the SNP are stepping up pressure about convicted criminals sitting in the House of Lords, citing the case of Labour peer Lord Watson.
The Scottish government is defending its plans to allow EU nationals resident in Scotland to vote in the upcoming referendum while denying Scots living outside of Scotland the same right as credit rating agencies have warned that Scotland may lose its AAA credit rating if it gains independence. The Daily Record and Herald have published contradictory polls monitoring the level of support for independence.
Finally, councils have refused to publish details of staff earning more than £58,200, claiming that it would be too expensive to list them all, according to the Telegraph.
