Charter88 is pleased to announce the appointment of Karen Bartlett as its new Director.

Karen Bartlett comes to Charter88 from the Fabian Society where she is currently Conference Director. Her achievements in that post include: the organisation of 'A New World Order?' which brought together speakers from the UK and around the world and 1000 members of the public; a series of debates on the role of the media in democracy; and 'Transforming Britain' a major conference on Labour's second term agenda.

Prior to the Fabian Society Karen Bartlett worked at the international education organisation United World Colleges, where she travelled extensively in Africa and developed a conference on democracy in Southern Africa with the South Africa Institute for International Affairs.

She was educated at UCL, the University of Westminster and Goldsmiths College in History, and then Journalism.

Karen Bartlett will take up the post in early May. Until then, Chris Lawrence-Pietroni will continue in the post of Acting Director.
