Objective(s)
The Elect the Lords Campaign was formed around the following statement:
Democracy requires the active consent of the people. That is why we believe that the second chamber must be predominantly elected. This will improve lawmaking and decisions taken in our name by increasing the legitimacy and strengthening the accountability of the whole of our Parliament.
We call for democratic reform of the House of Lords at the earliest opportunity.

The campaign was established by the New Politics Network and Charter88. Other supporting organisations include:

It currently has over 2,000 individual supporters.

The campaign was established in autumn 2004 and organised fringe meetings at all the main party conferences.
